One domain strategy that I use is to have the MATCHING DOMAIN to the titles of my books. Sometimes I will use the domain to create a standalone website to support the book and sometimes I will simply FORWARD the domain back to a different website or even an Amazon product page.
A tentative title for my book about buying and selling DOMAINS is Domainitrage (a combination of Domain - Arbitrage). I would have preferred DomainArbitrage.com, but it was already taken back in 2003 (and currently forwards to a different website).
Thankfully, Domainitrage.com was available for the base domain registration fee of just $9, so I picked it up.
Even if I don't end up calling my book Domainitrage, I still grabbed this domain 'just in case' because it was only $9 to hold onto it for an entire year. If I decide to change the name or if I don't want to use the term Domainitrage, I can always just choose to not renew the domain and it will not cost me anything more than the $9.
I currently do not plan to create a standalone website for Domainitrage.com because I don't want to have more than one main website for all of my domain content and information. Instead, I have set up a simple FORWARD through GoDaddy (free) that redirects any traffic from Domainitrage.com to DomainFlips.com/book. This way, I can use Domainitrage.com on the back cover or inside of the book of the same name. I can even use it in social media posts as a simple, clean link and even use it on podcasts or in videos as a one-word website destination instead of requiring listeners to remember to go to DomainFlips.com/book.
I also registered the name DomainSecretsBook.com. I would have preferred DomainSecrets.com, but it was already registered (back in 1999) and is currently listed for sale for $99,888.
Personally, I love the domain DomainSecretsBook.com because it's descriptive, pronounceable, and easy to remember.
Just like with Domainitrage.com, I grabbed this domain 'just in case' because it was only $9 to hold onto it for an entire year. If I decide not to use it, I can always just choose to not renew the domain.
I currently do not plan to create a standalone website for DomainSecretsBook.com because it would be redundant. Therefore, I have set up a simple FORWARD through GoDaddy (free) that redirects any traffic from DomainSecretsBook.com to DomainFlips.com/book. This way, I can use it in social media posts as an enticing and simple link that clearly implies that it is a book about domain secrets (not everyone will understand the term Domainitrage) instead of requiring listeners to remember to go to DomainFlips.com/book.
